A Healthy Way to Live with a Sweet Tooth

Hi everyone! I’m Alex from Cookie Dough Katzen and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to guest post for Krista while she’s off on a wonderful safari in South Africa!

Since I’m a major dessert lover, I wanted to share with you a healthy way to live with a sweet tooth. Sure, there are plenty of ways to distract yourself and not eat dessert, but for the times when you just need a sweet, here are a few substitutions to make in your baking to make it a little healthier.

  • Use applesauce instead of butter

  • Make a dessert smoothie

  • If you’re trying to cut back on the dairy, sub almond, soy or coconut milk for cream or milk
  • Switch white flour to coconut, almond or oat flour

  • Add in some healthy ingredients, like flax or chia seeds
  • Throw in a banana to the mix (like banana pancakes)

  • If you’re really ready to let loose, try experimenting with beans in desserts like Chocolate Covered Katie

  • Also try using dates as a sweetener in desserts

And when all else fails, just enjoy your dessert, in moderation of course.

I could eat chocolate and candy everyday. Okay, so most days I do, but I’ve learned to limit my intake. But for those times when you just need some chocolate, I think it’s best to let yourself indulge, just do it in a healthier way!

For me, it’s all about enjoying desserts in moderation that aren’t completely full of junk ingredients. See ya’ later, white flour!

What are some healthy dessert that you enjoy? Any ingredient swaps that you use?
